I live in San Antonio, Texas but I am blessed to be able to spend summers in Northeastern New Mexico. The “Land of Enchantment” is much cooler at an elevation of 8,500 feet than its 100 degree counterpart which reaches a mere 650 feet above sea level. Hence my reason to spend as much time in Valle Escondido (half way between Taos and Angel Fire) as possible!

One of my favorite hobbies is hiking/backpacking in the forests near my cabin. This past July I had the pleasure of spending a day hiking in the Carson National Forest…the Wheeler Peak area to be more specific. The day was glorious with brilliant sunshine and very few clouds. The only hindrance which slowed me down some in reaching the peak was the unbelievable amount of snow still covering the mountain from the extended winter snowfall of the season. With perseverance and prayer, God enabled me to reach the 13,161 summit. Please enjoy the photos I took along the way…
