Supremes Dessert

Supremes (a chocolate-y, oatmeal-y treat)

–and a great substitute for brownies or cookies–

Ingredients needed:

2 sticks softened margarine or butter 

1 teaspoon instant coffee grounds

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 cups light brown sugar 

2 eggs  

2 1/2 cups flour 

1 teaspoon baking soda 

1/2 teaspoon salt 

3 cups (old-fashioned kind) oatmeal 


1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk 

1 (12 oz. ) package of chocolate chips 


2 tablespoons margarine 

1 teaspoon vanilla 

A pinch of salt


Mix together the first nine ingredients in the order given. Pat approximately half the mixture evenly into a 9 x 13 baking pan. 

Stir the next 2 ingredients together and melt them in a separate container. (I usually zap in a microwave for 30 second intervals, stirring well in between, until completely blended and smooth.) Add the additional 2 Tablespoons of butter, 1 teaspoon of vanilla and pinch of salt.  Stir well again until the butter is all melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy.  Immediately pour this chocolate mixture on top of the 9 x 13 oatmeal layer already in the pan. Spread out evenly to the corners. 

With the remaining oatmeal mixture, make small flattened patties and place them on top of the chocolate layer in the pan, spacing them out.  Bake for 25 minutes in A 350° oven. Let cool completely before cutting bars. Enjoy!
