Be Prepared

There’s a nature park nearby where I enjoy hiking or riding my bike. If it’s quiet and not too busy, I catch glimpses of wildlife including deer, hawks, coyotes, and snakes. Yes- even rattlesnakes who sun themselves right across the trail in front of me! (I hate all snakes, dead or alive!)

So each time I venture out, I am sure to be alert and prepared for whatever crosses my path!

When I hike alone, I always carry a tazor- not because I’m fearful but because I’m prepared. (And no, it’s not for zapping snakes, either.)

Similar thinking applies to life in general. We don’t need to be struggling through our days loaded down with fears. Future uncertainties and worries of the day can mentally drain us, leaving us anxious and wondering, on edge.

So how do we prevent ourselves from being overcome with fear? After all, our to-do lists and things to worry about can be endless, right? The holidays may also add additional stress and anxiety to our already-overwhelmed minds- but it doesn’t need to be that way.

We need strategies to help us be equipped and prepared before facing our day. Two ideas? God’s Word. Prayer. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter who helps us to be strong and courageous, NOT fearful.

Here’s a challenge: Tomorrow, even before you get out of bed, (after you hear the alarm clock and have hit the snooze button) get yourself mentally prepared and dressed with the full armor of God.

Give yourself a few minutes to wake up, be still, and get your thoughts focused. Find your Bible or Bible app and look up Ephesians 6:14-18. It begins with “Stand firm then-

In a nutshell, these verses speak of truth, righteousness, readiness, faith, salvation, the Sword of the Spirit, prayer, and alertness.

“So do not be afraid, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Beloved Child of God, there is nothing to fear. The God of Angel Armies is near you, strengthening and protecting you. You can face any giant or battle that comes across your path. So stay alert and be prepared. God’s got you!
