Nurturing Friendships

Soul Care Sisters

One thing I’ve learned on this road to recovery is that I absolutely cannot walk it alone. I’d be lost without my Sisters in Christ, offering encouragement and support.

After attending a Soul Care Saturday event, one thing we discussed was knowing yourself. Each of us in the group was asked to share something we knew about ourselves. The pressure was on!

We were given a few minutes to think, and what kept coming to my mind was that it’s easy for me to tend to isolate. This seems to be an ongoing issue I need to work on. It’s not good to be alone too much, although some of us who are introverts love our alone time!

We need a healthy balance of time with God, time alone, time with family, and time with community. I’ve learned I need to be intentional to meet with friends for a coffee, meal, or just to visit.

Do you have an A-Team? Friends, who support you- (a buffer)- for when things get rough? We all need this, but sometimes to have a friend, we need to be a friend, right? It takes extra effort to connect and develop new friendships as well as maintain present relationships, but it can make all the difference.

It never fails, whenever I take time to meet with a friend, there’s always a blessing in store when we can share both the good and bad, the joy or pain. Jesus made us to be relational. He commands us: Rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn.” Romans 12:15

Sit down with your calendar. See if you can find a day this week to connect with a least one person. Then make it a habit. Everyone’s busy, but treat yourself to some self-care, soul-care. Meeting a friend is a way to do just that!
