Steps to Healing

Ever been in a pit of despair? Feeling afraid, depressed, or abandoned? Elijah did, too. In fact, he wanted to die! Maybe you feel like giving up, too?

In 1 Kings 19:4-5 Elijah says, “I have had enough Lord. Take my life.” He laid down under a broom bush, ready to die.

I can’t say I’ve had suicidal thoughts, but more than once I’ve felt defeated and said, “Come, Lord, Jesus!”

Exhausted, depressed, burned out. Trying to give what I didn’t possess.

What would it look like for you to respect yourself in light of your God-given limits?

Could it mean taking steps towards healing?

Willing to be pointed to or directed by God‘s purpose or calling?

When God told Elijah “Get up and eat,” was he preparing him for abundant living- saying “Enough of the pity party! I have good things planned for you!” Or did he just know Elijah needed nourishment for what was ahead? Or, maybe it was both?

There is a time for grief, mourning, and loss, but we can’t stay there forever. God still promises abundant life now- we needn’t believe we must wait for eternity.

Figure out the steps you need for healing. Maybe it means finding a betrayal trauma therapist. Maybe it means finding a wives care support group. Maybe some boundary setting is in order?

Don’t delay. Take steps to keep moving forward. There is abundant life waiting for you.
