God’s Always Working

I’ve been thinking about Naomi lately. On her travels with Ruth from Moab back to Bethlehem, she was husbandless, childless—an outcast in society. Naomi thought the Lord’s hand had gone out against her. She must’ve been full of despair—feeling helpless and hopeless.

But all the while, God was working behind the scenes. In a relatively short time she made history. She became grandmother to Jesse, who was King David’s father, and her descendants were all part of the royal line, all the way down to Jesus.

Wow! God’s plans were so good, her life had purpose and her waiting was never in vain.

Just like Naomi, God has good plans for us, too. So we trust while we wait. We don’t give up hope and we remember His steadfast love that can never be separated from us. He is always working—even though we may not feel it—even though we may not see it. He is trustworthy. This is what we cling to.

“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.”

Psalm 84:11 ESV

  1. Yes, God has a plan, and we can’t always see it unfolding. Lately in my litany of thanks I include things I don’t like at all, which seem so wrong. But I thank God, by faith alone, that this is somehow part of His plan.
