Shadow of His Wings

The Bible says we are created in God’s image, and since humans do not have wings, I seldom picture God with wings, either. ⁣

But in describing God’s protection, it is sometimes biblically referred to as a bird’s wing covering its chicks. And can’t you imagine the soft downiness of a mother bird’s wing keeping baby chicks close to her body—safe and warm?⁣

“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” Psalm 91:4 NIV⁣

After betrayal we sense a loss of security and safety, so I love this visual. It comes to mind when I think of God’s hedge of protection. We are safe from predators, kept away from fiery darts, and protected from evil. ⁣

Indeed, I believe one day we will be astonished at the many ways God has provided protection for us. We have no idea how often we may have been in harm’s way, had God not intervened. ⁣

Dear God,⁣
We are unaware of the multitude of ways you daily protect us from harm. Remind us to have grateful hearts for how you love us. Thank you for your wing of protection and your holy, mighty, warrior angels who help care for us.⁣
Amen. ⁣
