Oh, Be Careful

In Ezekiel Chapter 20, we find the Israelites exiled in Babylon due to their rebellion against God’s decrees and laws.

When God revealed himself in Egypt promising a land flowing with milk and honey, He also warned them, “Each of you, get rid of the vile images you have set your eyes on, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I AM the Lord your God.” (Ezekiel 20:7)

Did they listen? No. They rebelled and did NOT get rid of the vile images, nor did they forsake the idols, so God GAVE THEM OVER and let them become defiled. (verse 26)

In our culture, the defiled images of the past have been replaced by today’s online pornography.

Perhaps first-born children are no longer being sacrificed as they once were, but marriage and family relationships certainly are, due to ongoing use of pornography.

It’s destructive —even if the perpetrators believe, “I’m not hurting anyone.”

If you have discovered pornography in your home, I am truly sorry. It is shocking, hurtful, and yes, devastating. It can feel sad and hopeless to endure this abuse in a marriage.

We can bring those hurts and laments to Jesus because He gets it. He sees your pain and understands your hurting heart. You are not alone. Take heart in the promise of this verse.

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you. He will never leave you or forsake you. Do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV
