Strength and Dignity

“I am clothed in strength and dignity. I can laugh at the days to come.” Proverbs 31:25 NIV

Back in 2013, I was doing a Beth Moore Bible Study. In addition to the curriculum, for homework we were asked to choose one verse and commit it to memory for two weeks. I did this, so at the end of the year, I had memorized 24 verses. This Proverbs 31 verse was the first one I chose, but at the time, I didn’t believe it applied to me. 

When I was a Children’s Leader for Bible Study Fellowship, each time I presented a story to the children, I would open my Bible and say, “This is God’s Holy Book. All of the words are true.”

Why would I contradict myself, saying God’s words are true, if I wasn’t truly believing it? I did not feel clothed in strength. I wasn’t strong, I was weak. Dignity? What was that? As for laughing at the future, I was in a spirit of despair and depression.

As God continues to help me work through my healing process, I now believe Proverbs 31:25. It is because of JESUS that I can be strong. It is because of the ONE who lifts my head that I can have dignity. It is because of CHRIST’S trustworthiness that I can laugh at the future, because I know HE holds my future.

Do you believe God’s words are true? Do you know God provides strength when you feel like throwing in the towel? Did you know you are worthy of respect and dignity because you are a child of God, the daughter of a king? Sometimes it may feel like our circumstances are so overwhelming that we can’t take our eyes off them, but Jesus says to focus on Him instead. Won’t you make a decision today to put your trust in Him? He is the only One who will never leave us or disappoint us.
