Trying to Trust Again

Anybody remember the lyrics to Sheryl Crow‘s song, “The First Cut is the Deepest?”

Here’s a few lines:

“I would have given you all of my heart

But there’s someone who’s torn it apart

And he’s taking just all that I had

But if you want, I’ll try to love again

Baby, I’ll try to love again, but I know

The first cut is the deepest, baby, I know

The first cut is the deepest

But when it comes to being lucky, he’s cursed

When it comes to lovin’ me, he’s worst”

It hits where it hurts, right?

Trying to trust again?

Trying to love again?

Will things ever be the same again?

Friends, let me remind you…

Just as God saw Hagar in the desert, all alone, full of hurt and despair, He sees you, too. In fact, Hagar called God, “El Roi” (the God who sees). He knows your hurts—every deep cut, every tear you’ve EVER cried!

And guess what else? He will NEVER leave you. He’s always present—never sleeping—(watching over you instead, as a parent hovers over a sleeping child, full of adoration and unconditional love).

With a God who cares for us, and sings over us, can we trust him with every hurt? Every pain? Every heart desire?

YES! We can! He is faithful and true.
