In the Old Testament Book of Micah, chapter 6, the prophet tells how God had been patient with the Israel nation—how He had lovingly guided them and given every opportunity to return to Him.
God asks His people, “What have I done to you? How have I burdened you? Answer me.”
It’s something we could ask ourselves, as well.
We may be angry about the way our life has turned out. We may only see the unfairness of betrayal. The deceitful behaviors, the mistreatment, the pain, and loss blinds us to God’s comfort, protection and provision in our trial.
No condemnation if you are in the thick of it—I was there too, questioning God.
In the middle of my mess, I overlooked God‘s goodness. I saw only stormy, cloudy days as God was looking down, seeing the clear, complete, “big picture”.
God’s requirement for us is revealed in verse 8. “To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
We may not care for the cards we’ve been dealt, but we must remember our story isn’t over. For those who love God, He has a good plan. Will we trust Him to complete it?
Act justly. In a world that is unjust.
Love mercy. In a world of tough breaks.
Walk humbly. In a world of pride and self-sufficiency.
With. Your. God.

I love the closing statements, contrasting these three commands with the way the world is. Yes, we are called to go against the flow. We are not of this world.
